Disappointed in Jesus

There were many in the Lord's day and time that showed disappointment in Him. A rich, young ruler once asked Jesus about eternal life and was told to sell what he had and give to the poor. This disappointed him for he had many riches so he walked away (Luke 18:18-23.) In John 6:66, many disciples turned and walked no more with Jesus for He had presented th em with some hard teaching. In Matthew 15:12 we find that many were offended at the uncompromising nature of the Lord's teaching. Even at the cross Jesus bore shame and humiliation and was no doubt an embarrassment to many as they went by wagging their heads and making fun of Him.

Jesus often taught about high and lofty principles only to have folks become upset and disappointed and things are no different today. Peddlers of smut and pornography are disappointed at the morality of Christianity. Politicians and news media talking heads get upset and disappointed that any person in this country would dare make a decision about electing leaders based on character and Christian principles. How dare that dreaded and evil "religious right" raise its ugly head. Lawyers fill divorce courts begging for "no fault" divorces but Matthew 19:9 stands a wall in their way and they don't like it. On and on we could go.

But we also need to look in our own midst as well. Many Christians over the years have invented in their minds an imaginary Jesus-one who just smiles and looks the other way at everyon's weaknesses. Yet the Bible reveals a Jesus that demands faithfulness, genuine service, purity, scriptural worship, and love that goes beyond anything in this world. Christians mus have unbending loyalty to the Lord but many are not willing to go that far. Are you one who in reality is disappointed in Jesus? If so, rise above this carnal world lest Jesus become disappointed in you.
